Day 47: Unlimited Potential

Zach Wang 2016

Before I even applied to this program, I knew I needed to spend one of my college summers in New York. Growing up on the West Coast and being born in Kansas, the East Coast was completely foreign to me. I don’t have any family in New York and most of my friends are from California. MSBA offered me a unique opportunity to blend my passion for sports and adventure. I love to explore and try new things, and this was the perfect summer for me to take that leap and discover myself in the ever-growing sports world. Since the program has started, I have never looked back. Even though seven weeks have already passed, I still wake up every day in awe of the places we visit, the people we meet, and the experiences we are offered.

“Even though MSBA is only limited to eight weeks, the program has presented us with unlimited potential within the sports industry. What was once a risk has become opportunity for a lifetime.”

As MSBA 2016 is quickly coming to a close, I would like to thank Lorne, Bailey, David, Ben, Brandon, and Gooty for putting together an instrumental program that I will never forget. Their support and dedication to organizing various events and to giving us a first class look into the world of sports has been nothing short of spectacular. I always loved playing and watching sports, but I knew little to nothing about the actual business of sports. My dad works in the field of medicine and my mom works for a biotech firm. Growing up, sports have always been an avenue to get exercise, have fun, and compete with friends; it was never even considered as an opportunity to develop into a career. However, since joining this program, I can confidently say that I am meant to be in the sports industry.

MSBA has exposed us to most, if not all facets of the industry: sports consulting, entrepreneurship, Ecommerce, retail, broadcasting, sponsorship, sales, marketing agencies, player and coach representation, and visits to four major league offices (NBA, MLB, NFL, and MLS). This program has widened my eyes to the potential of sports and specific growth opportunities within the industry.

The things I will take away the most from MSBA, although cliché, are the lifelong friends and relationships I have made throughout the summer. Even though MSBA is only limited to eight weeks, the program has presented us with unlimited potential within the sports industry. What was once a risk has become opportunity for a lifetime.

Although I am sad that the program is ending, MSBA has laid the perfect foundation and I am excited for the next chapter and adventures to follow.
