Day 28: Measuring Personal Growth

Andrea Galea 2018

As we reach the midpoint of the summer, once unfamiliar surroundings, schedules, and programming have become habitual and akin to routine (however still interspersed with plenty of surprise). I feel as if this is an opportune moment to reflect upon my experience thus far, as well as to note particular positive changes I have undergone due to MSBA and the myriad of opportunities available.

The holiday weekend set the stage for a fresh reset, where I could process and absorb the lessons while organizing actionable steps to continue to make the most of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. MSBA takes a holistic approach that emphasizes putting forth one’s best well-rounded self, understanding that, as students and emerging sports business professionals, we must be continually exposed to every realm and scope of the industry. It is a privilege to be put in the position to acquaint myself so early in the process with accomplished “game changers” in the field with the added benefit and ability to befriend or connect beyond a surface level.

“In my opinion, the most significant lesson and impact this summer and program will have on my future is reinforcing an inner mantra that supports hard work and resilience coupled with maximizing my opportunities.”

At times, I am susceptible to feeling overwhelmed and unsure of an adequate way to initiate these conversations with possible future connections. However, the belief and confidence that the MSBA Staff instills in our group along with the immense preparation and dedication to providing available resources and support, gives my colleagues and me a realistic chance to succeed, but most importantly grow and evolve to succeed in the future.

It is notable that I recognize a greater inner comfort and ease when approaching Speakers and executives I encounter this summer than before I embarked upon this journey at MSBA. This would not have been as seamless and measureable had I not participated in countless Career Workshops honing my communication skills or observing tactics to facilitate meaningful interpersonal relations. In my opinion, the most significant lesson and impact this summer and program will have on my future is reinforcing an inner mantra that supports hard work and resilience coupled with maximizing my opportunities. If you can’t tell, myself and 24 other intelligent, talented individuals are extremely lucky to be a part of MSBA.
