Today marks the first day of my internship at LeagueApps. Although I am slightly nervous about starting a new role and figuring out the New York subway system, I am excited about the start of what I am sure will turn out to be a very memorable summer.
“I think back to my decision in November to apply to MSBA; I can already tell this turned out to be one of the best choices of my life.”
After spending most of my first day at work meeting new people, going through training, and learning more about the company, I rush back to MSBA Housing for the first speaker of MSBA, David Oestreicher, who gave a workshop on “The MSBA Way.” David currently holds the role of Co-Founder and Managing Director of MSBA, and previously worked at the NBA and co-founded REC*IT, an app that works with college fitness centers and intramurals. I was very interested in hearing about David’s experience in the sport technology industry, as LeagueApps is a startup in that sector. What stuck out the most to me was David’s message to “control what you can control” by getting to work early, staying late, dressing professionally, and–most importantly–showing how much you care. The thing all of these have in common is that they take almost no skill to do, yet can have a very positive impact on your success and your career.
After David finishes his presentation, I head out to a restaurant to watch the NBA Finals with a few of my MSBA classmates. While watching the game, I think back to my decision in November to apply to MSBA; I can already tell this turned out to be one of the best choices of my life.
