Day 43: There’s Power in Numbers

Kevin Paul 2015

And just like that…we had two weeks left. When I woke up on the morning of July 12th, it was hard to gather that in just 12 short days, we would be done with MSBA 2015. However, that didn’t take anything away from the week. Knowing that our time was coming to a close, the Manhattan Sports Business Academy Class of 2015 looked to make one of their last weeks a memorable one.

“But if I’ve learned anything from my time in New York surrounded by such an overly impressive group of people, it’s that you can accomplish anything with a good group behind you.”

Our case study project early in the week seemed simple: find a way to activate a brand within a major sports league in the course of one year. Piece of cake, right? Wrong. We received a tight budget and only 40 minutes to put the entire thing together. Our group ended up giving a good presentation, but it was more of a learning experience than anything: a deadline is a deadline. Do your best work in the time allotted to you.

The highlight of the week, however, came during our visit to NBC Sports on Friday afternoon. Admittedly, a lot of the vernacular used on the walking tour was a bit over our heads, but it was amazing to see all of the studios and how they operated. It’s a very complex song and dance, but they make it work: especially every two years, when they broadcast one of the Olympic Games.

These last twelve days won’t be easy. We’ve got programming almost every single day, and it all promises to be intense. But if I’ve learned anything from my time in New York surrounded by such an overly impressive group of people, it’s that you can accomplish anything with a good group behind you. I can’t lie…I feel pretty good about this team behind me.
