On Wednesday, July 1st, MSBA took a trip to a familiar place – Leverage Headquarters – to hear our very own Ben Sturner speak. Although a stark contrast from the casual environment of the kickoff party a few weeks prior, the event was still a large success.
“If we aren’t willing to take risks, we’ll spend our entire lives based on someone else’s experiences.”
Ben spoke on his own personal successes and failures, and how everything has been a learning experience. The first and most powerful quote he gave us was, “When your back’s against the wall, that’s when you work the hardest.” His lesson of constantly striving to overcome adversity was not lost on anybody in the MSBA Class of 2015.
Next, the group heard from Evan Morgenstein, an agent who represents current and former Olympic athletes. His story was similar to Ben’s, in that he had to overcome immense adversity to get to his current position. His mantra was simple: “Get up and go!” Evan stressed that we must be willing to take risks in the industry and that no one will provide us anything, driving home the point of embracing any and every challenge. If we aren’t willing to take risks, we’ll spend our entire lives based on someone else’s experiences.
Hearing from two professionals with almost 40 years of combined experience proved to be invaluable. Above all else, they wanted to hammer home the point that the most important thing is getting your foot in the door. Lucky for us, we’re off to a good start.
