Day 30: The Main Event

Brooke Williams 2015

The International Champions Cup is now only 12 days away, and my time at Relevent seems to be flying by. Pretty soon I will find my self at Red Bull arena watching PSG take on Fiorentina.

“The primary takeaway from the night was the necessity of a vision and a deep passion for sports.”

With the tournament quickly approaching, the Relevent office has been extremely busy. Our marketing department has been focused on drawing attention to the tournament via social media in the final days leading up to kick off. We’ve flooded our social media accounts with videos and photos of previous ICC moments. The best thing about this responsibility is that it allows me to explore my creative side! My fellow intern Maya and I have been able to put our own spin on the social media content surrounding the countdown.

That night the MSBA team and I heard from Bob Becker, Executive VP of Van Wagner BSN, and Sammy Choi, Director of Events at the NFL. It was an amazing experience to learn about their backgrounds and experiences within the field. While they reiterated the point that relationships in this industry are key, the primary takeaway from the night was the necessity of a vision and a deep passion for sports. Both stressed the importance of having a vision as to how all of the elements of a production – video, music etc. – come together to create an incredible fan experience. Being a musician myself, it was great to hear from Sammy how music had influenced his career, and how it is very much incorporated into the sports business industry. Overall, both Bob and Sammy provided the team with invaluable behind-the-scenes information about some of the most watched productions in the country such as the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup Finals, and even the Olympics.

Special thank you to Bob and Sammy for providing the MSBA team with invaluable insights and influencing our creative minds.
