Day 18: Pure Passion

Brooke Williams 2015

After just two and a half weeks, I can honestly call my fellow MSBA classmates my family. I must admit that before I came to New York I had been immersed in a group that was overwhelmed with microbiology assignments and organic chemistry exams. None of my classmates understood my passion for sports business until I became a member of MSBA’s Class of 2015. While it has been amazing to learn and grow as a young professional, what has been truly rewarding is sharing these experiences with such a passionate group of young people who I have come to consider family.

“As an athlete, this is an environment where I find myself thriving – an environment that I definitely would like to continue to be immersed in.”

Before beginning the cross-country trek from Seattle to NYC, I knew I had an interest in business and years of experience as a competitive gymnast, yet I was unsure of how these two worlds came together behind the scenes. Like every athlete, I shared that passion for the thrill of competition – that one second after the dismount to a perfect routine is stuck, when I understand what hard work can do. My experiences in NYC have definitely shown me that this passion is the driving force behind the sports business industry.

Wednesday marked the middle of Week 3, and although I had begun to feel the effects of the busy days, I had loved every second of it. Over the past few weeks I have gone from gymnast to die hard soccer fan (although my footwork is anything but fancy). With the International Champions Cup kicking off in 25 days, there is no dull moment at my internship in the Relevent office. Everyday I am responsible for drawing awareness to a tournament that has only existed for two years, yet what makes the job enjoyable is the passion for the sport. I feel so privileged to be a part of a company that is driven by commitment to competition and the thrill of the game. As an athlete, this is an environment where I find myself thriving – an environment that I definitely would like to continue to be immersed in. With the knowledge I have gained from my internship with Relevent, along with the experiences MSBA has provided, I have grown confident that this is the industry in which I belong.
