Day 8: Sunday-Funday

Nick O'Meara 2015

I can’t speak for the rest of MSBA 2015, but by the end of Saturday, I was EXHAUSTED. It was truly one of the most jam-packed, yet unbelievably rewarding weeks of my life. After hearing from Darren Rovell and David Oestreicher to start the week, then visiting the Empire State Building to hear from Taylor PR, and finishing the week with a tour of MSG and Q&A with staff members, it was time for a break. Not to mention, I had also completed my first week interning at Cogent Entertainment Marketing and witnessed the history that was American Pharaoh’s Triple Crown win on Saturday. Needless to say, I was ready for some down time. However, my amazing MSBA peers wouldn’t let me miss out on one second of what this great city has to offer.

So, after my 1pm wake up, a couple of us decided to walk around a little bit. We stopped for some delicious bagels, grabbed some supplies from CVS, kept walking, and then stopped for more bagels. When we got back to the dorms, a group of about 10 of us wanted to play some pickup basketball so we headed into Harlem to try to find a game. It was a beautiful afternoon, so the courts were packed. Eventually, at the second park we found, we managed to get a half court game going with some local middle-schoolers. Even though the competition was pretty fierce, the MSBA squad put up a great fight. We played for a few hours then made the trek back to EHS.

When we got back, having been sufficiently demoralized by a group of 12 year olds, we decided we would be better at watching basketball than playing. Therefore, a big group of us watched Game 2 of the NBA Finals in the EHS dorm lounge. We got in some great bonding time with our class and even some of the other dorm residents. It was great to just eat some pizza, drink some Iced Tea, and watch LeBron and ‘Delly’ put on a show.

All in all, for a day that began with me not wanting to get out of bed, it turned out to be one of the best days I’ve had so far. While we’re only through Week 1, MSBA has already exceeded all of my expectations. I have no idea how we could possibly top it this week, but I’m certain it’ll be a blast!
