Day 1: The New York State of Mind

Mitchell Batchelder 2015

The day I had been waiting for since my acceptance in December had finally arrived.  Move in for MSBA 2015 was finally here! All morning my mind was racing about all of the incredible people that I would meet this summer and the opportunities that I would be presented with. However, it didn’t really hit me until I met some members of the staff at check-in that this would be the greatest summer of my life, in one of the greatest cities on earth.

Once I arrived at the EHS dorms, I quickly threw all of my belongings into my room and began to explore the city.  I came to find that there are plenty of delicious food options around me, so I knew I would not be going hungry this summer. Also, a subway entrance is conveniently only a few blocks away from where we are staying, which will undoubtedly come in handy during my commute to work each day.

After a few hours of exploring, it was time to head back to the dorms for orientation. Once I arrived, I got to meet the other impressive participants that make up the MSBA Class of 2015. It was humbling to be surrounded by such accomplished individuals. After some opening remarks from the staff, we set out to Buffalo Wild Wings in Times Square to get the summer started off right. After a delicious meal, it was time to head back and get some sleep. However, that was put on hold for some time as a large group of us struggled navigating the subway system.  Nonetheless, with the help from a few strangers and a little luck, we eventually found our way home. Luckily for me, I don’t start my internship with Platinum Rye Entertainment, an entertainment and marketing consultancy, until Wednesday, so I have plenty of time to figure out where I am going.

After just one day, it became clear that it is going to be one hell of a summer and it all starts tomorrow with our first speaker, Darren Rovell from ESPN. I can’t put into words how excited I am for these next two months. Let’s get it.
